In 1833 the site to be known as Atlanta, Georgia, Hardy Ivy the first settler built a cabin on what had been Creek tribal land. Situated at the end of the Western and Atlantic rail line, the town was founded in 1837 as ‘Terminus’, then to be incorporated as ‘Marthasville’, in honor of the governors’ daughter, in1843.
Not named Atlanta until 1845, the town became a rail and marketing hub and in the civil war it was a communication and supply center. Following 1868, Atlanta thrived as a commercial and industry center and was named the capitol of Georgia in 1877.
’The city to busy to hate’ during the 60’s, Atlanta in the 21st century is now known as ‘the city not to busy to care’, with it’s both modern feel and historic charm today Atlanta is home to numerous corporations, including the internationally known ‘Coca- Cola’, founded here 1892, and one of the newest additions to Atlanta is the Georgia Aquarium, featuring two Whale Sharks the largest fish on Earth, the Aquarium is the largest in the world. From the Sun Dial Restaurant, voted ‘Atlanta’s best view of Atlanta” you can see panoramic views of downtown Atlanta, where there is much to be seen at your own pace.
