Named after a river by father Abraham Curry in 1860, the Carson River was named after the famous frontiersman and scout Christopher ‘kit’ Carson, Carson City was founded in 1858, seven years after the first settlement of Eagle Station Trading post in 1851.Carson City was selected as state capitol after the importance of Nevada’s silver and gold to the union’s civil war effort was recognized by president Abraham Lincoln and Nevada was ushered into statehood in October 1864.
Today, Carson City is a well known city internationally Nevada is ranked first in silver production as well as gold, in 1996 the state mined 35% of all silver mined in the U.S and offers visitors one of the most scenic and historic areas in the country, just a stones throw away from downtown Carson City is Lake Tahoe, in the downtown area there is a large variety of places to stay, things to do and entertainment.
