When the first European’s traveled to North Carolina the area was occupied by a number of native tribes, Cherokee being the most well known in the area. The first permanent English settlers in North Carolina were immigrants from south east Virginia, who traveled to the Albemarle area around 1650.Charlotte was named for Queen Charlotte, wife of George 111 of England, and settled in 1750, 18 years later the city was incorporated. Then throughout 1800 to 1848 Charlotte was the center of US gold production.
Today, Charlotte is the second largest banking center in the United States, also the hub of North Carolinas’ air, transportation and distribution belt. And with the introduction of the huge Charlotte Coliseum and high rise office buildings Charlotte while being transformed still has much of the history preserved for people the many people who come to visit to explore.
