Hartford was founded by Dutch traders in the early 1600’s and established by the Reverend Thomas Hooker in1636.On the west bank of the Connecticut River the city originally started out as a fort called the house of hope.1794 the area was world famous as an insurance centre once home to the head quarters of 35 insurance companies.
Today Hartford is the second largest city in Connecticut.
