Houston was founded 1836, by JK and AC Allen and named for Sam Houston, for two years from 1837 served as the capitol of the Texas republic. The city’s growth came after the digging of the ship channel on the buffalo bayou and the Galveston bay in 1912-14 making it a deepwater port and linking it to the gulf.
The first word to be spoken on the moon, 25 miles from downtown Houston is the location of the Johnson space centre in the Clear lake area. With the history of space exploration, festivals and more than 400 events throughout the year, Houston is a world-class city that has something for everyone.
