Madison the 2nd largest city of Wisconsin was first visited by James Duane Doty, naming the town after the 4thpresident of the US, James Madison.
Following Wisconsin becoming a state in 1848, Madison was incorporated as a city in 1856.
Today, Madison has over 240 parks, several beaches, the largest state park in Wisconsin, ‘Devil’s Park’ just north of the town and sitting between the ‘Mendota and Monona’ lakes, is the State Capitol Building on North and South Hamilton Streets right in the centre of town. People can visit this national historic landmark and the other businesses and attractions in Downtown Madison with ease using the pedestrian or bicycle access or the motorized corridors.
