Manhattan, meaning ‘hilly island’ or ‘place of intoxication’, is believed to sold by the occupying natives for $24 in beads and other trinkets, by natives from the wrong tribe.
The first European to discover Manhattan is believed to be English explorer Henry Hudson, who in 1609 was sailing for the Dutch. However as early as 1524, New York Harbor was first explored by Italian explorer Giovanni da Verrazano.
Today, Manhattan moves at a rapid pace, the location of many internationally known landmarks and consisting of many distinct neighborhoods all with very different characters, a big business city Manhattan has divided it business region into downtown Manhattan known as the ‘Financial District’ and the newer ‘Midtown’.
