Montpelier, Vermont was settled as early as 1787 along the North Branch, during the time Vermont was an independent republic. The city of Montpelier was originally chartered in 1781 as a grant to settlers from Massachusetts. By 1805 the community had grown rapidly. Due to its central location, Montpelier was selected as the location for the state house and today remains the center for arts and entertainment, government, services, industry and commerce for the region.
In the heart of the Vermont ski country, Montpelier is known for its’ historic and architectural riches and picturesque location along the Winooski River while in the area there is plenty of services available at hand.
