Raleigh, North Carolina was first settled by Joel Lane that with his two brothers traveled to the region in 1741. Purchased from the early settler, the city was selected as the site to be capitol in 1792. Following the civil war, Raleigh became a center of opportunity for the African American people, today that significance shows in numerous landmarks, and educational or cultural institutions.
Best known for its’ world class museums and entertainment, among it s’ industries are electrical, medical, telecommunications, and being a research center for textiles and chemicals , Raleigh is part of North Carolina’s research triangle.
