Richmond the capital of Virgina is known as “one of the best places to live and work in America’. The area was home to Indian tribes of the Powhatan Confederacy previous to English explorers, led by Captain Christopher Newport, traveled here in 1607.Later to be named after a suburb in London, Richmond became the site of Fort Charles, which attracted many new settlers. Colonel William Byrd 2nd who inherited the land on both sides of the James River founded Richmond which was now a trading post, in 1737.
Richmond became a town in 1742 and 1782 it officially became state capitol.
Following the invention of machine- rolled cigarettes here in 1870, the tobacco industry became a major industry for Richmond, and remains one of its major industries today.
Richmond has on offer a wealth of culture, landmarks, monuments and modern services. An elegant city, surrounded by oceans, mountains, and among the nation’s largest river parks systems, Richmond is both a bit of old mixed in with the new.
