Along the San Antonio River, Native Americans first lived here calling the area ‘Yanaguana’, which means ‘refreshing waters’. Spanish explorers and missionaries came upon the river in 1692, on the feast day of Saint Anthony; they then named the river ‘san Antonio’.
In 1718 father Antonio Olivares founded the city when he established Mission San Antonio de Valero.
Today, San Antonio is the location of the world’s largest marine life park, ‘World San Antonio’, along the well known river walk there is much to see and entertainment options on offer and services available.
